Arms Wide Open is a ministry at St. John’s, with a goal to focus on issues affecting LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) people within the context of St. John’s vision of Invitation, Inclusion, Faith and Action. The founding members of this ministry are Margie Bowman, Rosemary Bristow, Scott Denman, Krista Fregoso, Linda Manzi, Bridget Mooney, Ray Riess and Michelle Ziegmann.
All members of St. John’s are welcome to join the conversation and participate in the meetings and mailing list. Please join our mailing list to stay informed of upcoming meetings, and to share in the discussion.
A St. John's contingent, led by our own Rev. Scott Denman, is planning to ride in the AIDS/LifeCycle Ride to End AIDS. This 7-day, 545 miles bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles aims to raise money and awareness in the fight against HIV/AIDS. If you are interested in joining this contingent, please contact Scott at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Welcome Statement (Invitation): The members of the Arms Wide Open ministry, in coordination with the vestry and the clergy, developed and approved a new welcome statement that explicitly welcomes LGBT people. In our study of the process of becoming a welcoming church (see http://www.integrityusa.org/process), the wonderful Episcopal proclamation that “All are welcome” is inspiring, and we wanted it to be clear what that means.
The new statement is available now on the homepage of our website.
San Francisco and Oakland Pride Parades 2014 Several members of St. John's helped to plan and march in these events to celebrate LGBT pride, and God's love of all people just as they were created.
